Hello! I am Ioana Radian, a Romanian who is very much into old customs and art.
I help make websites and my educational background is in foreign languages and ethnology and folklore – but other than that I’m a tourist planning her own trips who is tired of reading “top 10 things to do” articles that assume you’ve already made up your mind about where to go or that you want to visit the “must-see” attractions. Experience taught me the must-see or top-rated places are not necessarily the best for everyone.
So this blog is about choosing what to visit in Europe, Caucasus, Central Asia… with a focus on local traditions and holidays, festivals and ethnographic museums. Countries like Italy, France and Russia are known for the postcard views and “high culture”, while their local traditions and less important historic places don’t get as much attention. But you can go relax by the sea in southern Italy and still have plenty to discover beyond those incredible landscapes. Then there are countries few even travel to… such as those near the borders of Europe or in the middle of Asia. The ones that are foreign and mysterious without being stereotypically exotic.
One of my goals is to create a calendar with recommended trips for each season, with holidays and festivals. In the meantime feel free to comment below or ask questions by email. I’m also on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ioana.radian
